This year, for the fifth year running, St Francis NS is participating in the Super Troopers Programme with Laya Healthcare.

What is Super Troopers?

Super Troopers is a free Health Homework programme that teaches children about leading a healthy balanced lifestyle by focusing on physical activity, wellbeing and nutrition.  The programme compliments our on – going activities as an Active School and a Health Promoting School.

The programme encourages children to increase their activity levels by setting physical activity homework every night.  The Health Homework Journals also contain wellbeing challenges, extra tips on looking after overall health, information on nutrition and healthy recipes helping children to be fit and healthy in mind and body.

During the Autumn term each pupil is given:

  1. A Health Homework Journal.
  2. A Family Activity Wall Chart.
  3. A letter for their parent/guardian explaining in detail how Super Troopers works.

The Health Homework Journals contain activities for pupils to do every evening.
New for 2019/2020, they have added more wellbeing challenges and yoga exercises to promote mental and physical wellbeing for pupils.

We cover a range of physical activities throughout the school year including FitKids (younger classes), Irish dancing (2nd-6th classes), basketball, tennis, swimming (4th & 5th classes), Gaelic football, hurling, soccer, etc.

Every class teacher is committed to keeping the classroom active and healthy throughout the year and we are asking parents to please join in with your child by displaying the Super Trooper wallchart in the home and helping complete the Health Homework Journal with your child.

Visit the Super Trooper Website’s Family Zone for  additional downloadable physical and wellbeing activities, along with recipes and nutritional tips.  To keep your family moving throughout the year,  brand new activities are added every month, so don’t forget to check back for more information and fresh activities to guide your family on its Super Troopers journey!
