All Welcome
Ms Carroll runs a successful lunchtime chess club at St Francis NS. Pupils from 3rd-6th Classes are all welcome and it is not necessary to already know how to play chess. The social and cognitive benefits of children playing chess are well documented. See ficheall.ie to learn more. We play friendly matches against each other and sometimes local schools. Our school teams also compete in one day inter-school chess tournaments organised by Ficheall.

Online Teams
Pupils can also join the school’s online teams on Lichess. 3rd and 4th Class pupils can join team “Chesster’s Besters” and 5th and 6th Class Pupils can join “St Francis No Pawn Intended.” Pupils can join via Lichess.
