Sports Partnerships

Active School Committee

One of the most valuable partnerships we have in our school is our Active School Committee, who are enthusiastic and encouraging to all children.  They have helped to train playground leaders who promote and organise games on the school yard with the infant children.  The committee are involved in the initiatives run throughout the school and help to raise awareness of them also.  We aim to meet on a regular basis and use this as an opportunity to take feedback about the games happening on the yard.  The committee have worked extremely hard and have reorganised the PE cupboard to ensure that all resources are easily accessed.

Louth Local Sports Partnership

We are very lucky to work quite closely alongside the Louth Sports Partnership and earlier last year (June 2019), they launched their Primary School Physical Activity Programme.  One of the programmes is the ‘Louth Chalk Free Play Programme.’  Louth LSP went to every school in Louth and gave each child a tube of chalk as a resource to use when they are outside.  St Francis NS were lucky enough and were chosen to feature in their video, demonstrating how to use and play with the chalk.  All our children loved this initiative and loved using their chalk on the yard and at home.

Over the last number of years, we have worked closely with DKIT students who are studying various sporting courses at the college.

Throughout the year, we have final year students from the BSc in Physical Health & Activity programme on placement to our school to coach and work with our children.  The coach them in a variety of the PE strands and teach them the skills required.

We also participate in physical literacy fun days, taking various classes to DKIT where the 1st year BSc Sports students arrange training sessions on their “Leading The Active Child” module.

We are very lucky to have this partnership and our children enjoy taking part in PE with them.

Geraldines GFC

Our local GAA club, Geraldines GFC, organises coaching sessions in school to encourage and promote GAA in young people.  They target pupils in 1st & 2nd Classes on their Schoole Coaching Programme. The Geraldines also organise inter-school blitzes with local schools in the parish.

Louth GAA

Louth GAA organises coaching in St Francis throughout the year.  They provide professional county coaches for our children in both Gaelic and Hurling.  They also organise blitzes for our children to take part in.  More recently, they held trials for our 6th class boys, who will join the 6th Class Academy GAA team.

Scoil Rince Uí Chonghaile

Scoil Rince Uí Chonghaile has worked alongside St Francis NS for the last number of years, teaching Irish dancing to children from 1st Class to 6th Class.  Each block of Irish dancing lasts six weeks, coinciding with Seachtain na Gaeilge, meaning at the end of the block, we have a whole school céilí.
