School Sports Teams
At the beginning of this academic year, playground leaders were trained to zone and conduct games on the infant yard. These children discussed the types of games which they would like to see on the yard and the equipment that they would need to be successful. Each leader received a pack with a variety of games and new equipment was ordered. Each day at lunch time, playground leaders choose buddies from 6th Class to assist them on the yard with the games.
In May last year (2019), our senior basketball team competed in the Dundalk schools league, which consisted of games taking place across a number of weeks. Both our girls and boys teams advanced to the finals, with our girls team coming in 3rd place. Fortunately, our boys team won the league after a very intense and competitive game. Two boys were also awarded MVP of the entire tournament.
We have many sports teams in our school for both boys and girls. We aim to compete in a range of games both with schools in the parish and in the wider local community.
This academic year, we have competed in competitions for athletics, basketball, GAA and with the FAI for soccer.
In the summer term, our active schools committee organise an inter-school football league. This gives children the opportunity to place football with children in different classes. The league is organised by the children, who take full ownership of it each day.
