Message from Our Principal – 19th June 2020
As we approach the virtual end of this very different school term, I would like to express my thanks to all the pupils, parents and staff for their tremendous efforts in helping our pupils continue to learn from home over the past 14 weeks.
Your child’s school report (year end certificates for Junior Infants) was sent out this week to the address we have on file for you. If you did not receive yours, please email the office on firstname.lastname@example.org and we will arrange for a replacement to be sent.
Return of School Books
In order for us to complete our stock take of books, we are asking all parents to return all books (rental books, reading books, library books, etc) belonging to the school next Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th between 10am – 3pm. We will have a drop off station inside the school grounds on the covered pavement outside of the office. There will be a labelled box for each class and you ae asked to deposit books in a sealed plastic bag or bin bag labelled with your child’s name. We will also provide a table with sanitizing wipes and spray, pencils and post it notes if you need to label the books.
Collection of Personal Belongings
If you did not get the opportunity to clear your child’s personal belongings from the classroom, there will be staff on hand to escort you inside the school building to the classroom. Please be aware that we have to restrict the number of parents entering the school at any one time and you may have a short wait. We will also require any parent entering the school building to sign the visitor tracing book.
The lost property box will be placed outside for parents to reclaim any lost items. You may also drop off any bags of clothing/textiles for our clothing collection. We have had several requests from parents who have had a clear out of their closet during lockdown!
6th Class Graduation
Thank you to all 6th class parents who responded to our recent survey regarding the Graduation. The BoM has decided, in view of the current restriction on a maximum of 6 people meeting indoors and 15 out of doors, the only viable option is schedule the event for August (Friday 21st August TBC?) when we anticipate the restrictions will have relaxed sufficiently to allow the whole class together with parents and staff to celebrate their Graduation. However, as next Friday 26th June is officially their last day at St Francis, we cannot let it go by without some fanfare! We are inviting all 6th class families to join in a “drive by parade” along the Rock Road past the school at 12 midday. Staff will be there to applaud our 6th class pupils as they drive by hooting horns! We do hope you will be able to join in!
Plans for August
Covid-19 has changed our world and people young and old have faced many bewildering challenges often tinged with sadness or stress. We all look forward to welcoming your pupils back on Wednesday 26th August for the new school year. Currently we are formulating detailed plans to ensure that pupils learn, progress and thrive in our changed school environment. We will communicate these plans to you as soon as possible and subject to Public Health advice and guidance from the Department of Education.
I wish you all a safe and happy summer.
