May School Assembly
Last Friday we had our monthly whole school assembly to acknowledge the recent achievements in St Francis NS.
The following individuals and teams were acknowledged for outstanding acheivements:
- Aswati – for Irish Dancing
- Sam – for his club’s football player of the year award
- Jai – for winning the Libby Dynamites Golden Ticket (one years free basketball coaching)
- Sean – for outstanding performance at basketball
- The St Francis girls and boys basketball teams
- The St Francis boys Gaelic team
The pupils who received awards for raising sponsorship money in the MS (The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland) Read-A-Thon at the end of last year were presented with their certificates. Well done to you all!
The May Gaeilgeoir Awards were given to the pupil(s) from every class who had made the most progress with their Irish.

Last week at a special ceremony in Dublin, Mrs Lawless and 3 pupils from the Green Schools Committee, were presented with our 4th Green Flag – for Travel. Mrs Lawless thanked all the pupils, their parents and all the school staff for working so hard on this award over the last two years. The Green School Committee also made a special presentation of a travel flag to Miss Lundy for promoting cycling in the school and encouraging a new generation of active and safe cyclists at St Francis NS.
Mrs Lawless also announced that we have just been awarded the Active Schools Flag. Again, she thanked the pupils, their parents and all the school staff for encouraging such a physically active and healthy school community. Particular thanks to Miss Carolan and Miss Kellegher for coaching the school Gaelic teams and Sarah and Gary for coaching the school basketball teams.
The May Golden Bin Award was won by Miss Carolan’s 1st Class for their excellent re-cycling and pristine classroom – congratulations to you all!
The Golden Boot Award for May was won by Mrs Whately’s 4th Class, who were particularly good at walking and car-pooling – congratulations to you all!
