Oreena Lawless, principal of St. Francis School, received the Teacher of the Year 2015 award at the Primary Schools Environmental Awards in the Crowne Plaza yesterday. Congratulations Oreena! Well deserved.
Miss Lundy’s 5th and 6th Class enjoyed a fabulous 2 day trip to Carlingford this week. They set off on Monday with a hike up Sleive Gullion, and then went on to Carlingford Adventure Centre. After dinner they went on a night walk – blindfolded! On Tuesday they did a number of land based activities including body zorbing, archery and team building, then after lunch they took to the water.

Please note that Junior and Senior infants will finish at 12 midday on Wednesday 10th June to prepare for the open day for new Junior Infants. Fitkids and choir will not be on after school.
Many congratulations to Miss Carolan’s 1st class for winning the Golden Boot award for their fantastic efforts with walking to school! Every class had excellent results, but 1st class were the clear overall winners! Thank you also to all the parents who have supported our efforts to encourage walking and cycling to school. God Bless our 2nd Class pupils who celebrated their First Holy Communion on Saturday. We hope you all enjoyed your very special day. Many people were involved in preparing for the Communion and we extend a huge thank you to Father Padraig Keenan PP, class teacher, Mrs Donaghy and the individual parents for preparing the pupils, to our school choir, coached by Mrs Lawless and Miss Reynolds, for their beautiful.
St Francis NS will hold the first ever Graduation Mass for our departing 6th class pupils on Wednesday 24th June at 7.30pm in the school hall. The class of 2007 has the very first pupils to enrol at St Francis NS, so it will be a very special evening for the whole school community: the pupils, their parents, the staff and friends of the school. More details to follow.
Junior and Senior Infants are going to Newgrange Farm on Firday 12th June (cost €17). 1st-4th Class are going to W5 Belfast on Wednesday 10th June (cost €20) and 5th & 6th Class are going on an ovenight activity trip to Carlingford Adventure Centre (cost €75). Thank you to all parents who have returned permission slips. If you have not already returned one, please can you get them in to.
We shall be holding a No Uniform Day on Thursday 28th May. Pupils may come in in normal clothes or fancy dress. We are asking for a donation of €2 per pupil. All proceeds will go to the Crosscause Romanian Orphanage to assist with their summer camps. Thank you for your support and co-operation.
The school is closed today for a Staff Planning Day. There will be no after-school tennis with Gus. Footprints pre-school is open as usual.
Congratulations to both our girls and boys basketball teams for winning their matches today against the CBS. The girls won 24-0 and they boys 12-2. These were the last matches in the Cispheile nDun Dealgan School league and rounded off an excellent year for our basketball teams. Many thanks to Coaches Gary and Del for all their work with the teams, and to class teacher Miss Lundy and SNA Sarah.
