Oreena Lawless is a graduate of St. Patrick’s College of Education in Dublin and has been teaching since 1987.
Oreena and Elaine O’Rourke were the original teaching staff of two at the establishment of St Francis National School in 2007.
She has worked in many schools throughout her career, at all primary levels and as a resource teacher.
Oreena is a very hands-on school Principal and is involved in all aspects of school life, including the development of the school garden, the choir, the promotion of the Irish language and environmental issues as her “fun activities” with the children outside of the classroom.
She attends the monthly Parent’s Association meetings in school and is keen to share new ideas and initiatives with parents and listen to their concerns or suggestions. She is hugely grateful to the parent body of our school community for their tremendous support in fundraising and organising social events for the school community.
She has overseen the dramatic development of St Francis NS over the past 12 years from it’s humble beginnings in 2 prefabs at the Community Centre, to the building of the new school building on the Rock Road in 2013 and the future plans to develop and extend the school to house our 2nd stream.
Although an administrative principal, in the classroom Oreena is involved daily with the school’s very successful literacy programme and also continues to support all the class teachers, particularly with the teaching of Irish. Oreena is also the secretary of the Board of Management of St Francis NS.
In her spare time she enjoys walking her dogs, travelling around Ireland, teaching Irish, Irish dancing and spending time relaxing with family and friends.
