Special Needs Assistant
Carmel officially joined the staff of St Francis NS in December 2016, although she had been a familiar face around the school for several years, working as a substitute SNA, volunteering in the classrooms and doing after school French classes.
Carmel works with children with Special needs in our school. She specifically looks after their care needs and assists the class teachers with the education of special needs pupils in her charge.
Along with the other SNAs, Carmel helped set up the very popular “Friday night at the Movies” in school, with the specific aim of raising funds for the installation of finger guards on the doors in school and sensory items for the outdoor play. It has been a huge success with pupils – and their parents!
Carmel also helps at the after school Homework Club.
This year, together with SNA Lisa, Carmel successfully completed her studies (during her weekends off) to gain a level 7 degree as an SNA.
