Scholastic Book Fair and World book Day: 2nd-6th March
Next week in school we shall have our annual SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR in school all week.
Parent volunteers will be in all week to run the Book Fair. For those who are unfamiliar with it, a mobile “shop” of books and stationery will be in school for pupils and parents to browse and make purchases.
Each class is brought to the Book Fair on Monday and Tuesday and any children wishing to purchase books are given a note to take home with the title of the book and the price. Parents can then decide if they wish to make the purchase for their child. There is no obligation whatsoever to make a purchase. We have also sent home this week a book leaflet with all children. They may also order at the book fair any titles from the leaflet. There is also a stationery shop and pupils can buy pens, pencils, erasers, posters, etc.
The Book Fair is a major fundraiser for the school. For every €1 spent on books, we receive 70c credit towards the purchase of books for the school. In the last few years, this has enabled us to purchase a wonderful selection of books for our school library and also class sets of atlases, dictionaries, thesauruses, novels, graded reading schemes, etc.
We will keep parents updated via the Facebook page throughout the week of opening times an news.
Our Book Fair coincides with WORLD BOOK DAY on THURSDAY 5th MARCH. We invite all pupils in to school dressed up as their favorite book character on Thursday. For dress up ideas see here: Mumsnet World Book Day Dress Up Ideas
Visiting story tellers will be in school to read to various classes.
Last but not least, a huge thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help out with the Book Fair. It is a big undertaking and without your help we would not be able to put on such an impressive annual Book Fair.
