Rann Na Feirste Gaeltacht Contae Dún na nGall

On the 11th of May 2026 39 of the pupils of St Francis NS’ 6th class went up for a five day residential trip in Ranafast in County Donegal. The pupils departed from the school around half nine in the morning and arrived in Donegal at around 3 PM. The pupils were given an Irish word search sheet before the owners of the organization got the buses to drop the pupils to their houses.
The students were provided a house to stay in for the trip. The students had to go up to the college everyday at half nine for a two hour Irish lesson. Now that might sound boring, but it was really simple and you were given a break every 45 minutes. Then after you go home for lunch and come back for some activities. I’ll list some examples of the activities. Erigal zoo, kayaking, shopping in Dungloe and Dun Lewey.
The students went back to the college at around 7.30pm every night for some more fun Irish, they got to sing and dance and on the final night. They had a big céíli.
The trip was really fun and it doesn’t just teach you Irish, it also teaches you a little bit of independence.
