Today we held the finals of the St Francis NS Public Speaking Competition.
Pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th Classes learned in class about structuring a short talk and they all prepared their own piece to perform in front of their class. Heats were held in their respective classes and the winning 12 entrants performed in the semi finals last week in front of all the senior classes, judged by Oreena and Brigitte.
The top 6 performers then participated in the final today, judged by our former Speech & Drama Teacher, Patricia Reynolds.
The finalists were Abigail O’Byrne (6th Class) with a talk on Breathing, John O’Rourke (6th Class) with a talk on Lies and Charlotte Thoyne (6th Class) with a talk on School Assembly
In third place was Aoibhin Callan (5th Class) with her talk of the History of Lego.
In Second place was James Devlin (5th Class) with his talk on the Evolution of the Dinosaur.
In first place, winning the coveted Patricia Reynolds Public Speaking Trophy was Clara Mullen (4th Class) talking about the History of Mullens Takeaway Shops.

Speaking at the adjudication, Patricia Reynolds said that the experience of participating in the Public Competition is hugely beneficial to building confidence and ambition, and she was particularly looking at the structure of every presentation, as well as the delivery and the engagement with the audience.
