This year the St. Francis Basketball Team decided to get new basketball kits from Spalding. On the 25th of march the new kits arrived. They had been paid for through the return bottle system that students had been donating to, by giving their bottles into a crate at the back of the class. This was set up by the Parent’s Association and the Green Schools.

The new kits are very popular with the players. They are also reversible which means you can wear them inside out. One side is white and the other is red. Here is a picture of the team wearing the kits.

Sixth class had lots of great things to say about them. “Wow” was the only word that Luke Lonergan could use to describe the kits. And he wasn’t the only one. The new basketball kits are very popular with the team. Another team member said “They’re very comfortable, which will be helpful while playing.” When we asked him, Matthew Woods said, “They’re reversible, which is better than the old kits.” But all of this doesn’t demonstrate even a ¼ of the excitement. Charlotte Thonye  told us “I think they are very nice, or should I say… tá siad go deas! Iontach deas!”

Safe to say, there is a refreshing buzz around the school and a renewed interest in basketball. And at just the right time of the year, as we can get outside to practice more often with the good weather! Here’s a big thank you to everyone in the PA, Green Schools and all those who helped by donating. Also a special mention to Brigitte who helped organize so much of this.

Now we just have to retain the Girls and the Boys Cups in the Dundalk Schools Leagues this year …. no pressure!
