On March 5th 2026 the children of 6th class who are of the Roman Catholic faith went to St Fursey`s church to be confirmed by Christ into the catholic church. The mass started at 11am until 1pm lasting around 2 hours. During this time the pupils went up to the altar to be confirmed by the Archbishop of Armagh while the St Fursey’s NS choir sang hymns. When the pupils went up to be confirmed, their sponsors went behind them, put their right hand over the pupils right shoulder and watched them get confirmed.  We got sealed with the gifts from the Holy Spirit and are now adults of the church.

My sponsor is Kenneth, my Grandad. I asked him because I’m close to him and I know he will support me through my life. My confirmation name is Francis. I chose it because he loved animals and so do I.  (Alex)

My sponsor is Taylor, my brother. I am very close to him and I go to him for advice. My confirmation name is Frederick. I picked it because it’s my late grandad’s name. (Conor)

After the church, pupils went to the Geraldine’s GFC for a sort of meet up for the pupils and their families.  There was tea, coffee, crisps and biscuits, served by the Parents Associations of St Francis NS and St Fursey’s NS. Also, the entire mass was livestreamed so that some sick relatives could watch the mass without having to go out of the house.

We also took a pledge this year to stay away from drugs for our entire lives and alcohol , cigarettes and vaping until at least 18 years old.
