To celebrate St Francis Day (4th October) we had a visit from Newgrange Falconry.
Brian and Barbara from Newgrange Falconry brought a selection of birds, including falcons, hawks and owls. They also brought along falconry equipment that including gloves, hoods, telemetry, jesses and leashes.
The birds were placed on their perches or blocks and displayed in a cordoned off viewing area. One by one each bird was placed on the falconer’s glove and pupils were given informational talks about each bird (e.g. type, origin, diet, age, personality etc.) Pupils asked lots of questions and all got the opportunity to hold a bird.
It was an unforgetable day!
